CHILD SAFEGUARDING STATEMENT AND POLICY 

 

NEWARK AMATEUR BOXING CLUB 

 

 

This Club is an Affiliated Member of England Boxing and as such adopts the following Club Child Safeguarding Policy which is supported by and compliments the England Boxing Child Safeguarding Policy – these policies are mandatory and acceptance of them is a non-negotiable requirement when becoming a member of this club. Our statement 

 

This club has a duty of care to Children and Young People [under 18 years of age] and the safety and welfare of them is paramount. 

This club is committed to ensuring that every child & young person regardless of age, ability, racial origin, religious belief, sexual orientation or gender (including gender reassignment) has a right to learn, participate in and enjoy boxing, free of the fear and safe from abuse of any type. 

Our Policy – What we will do. 

This club acknowledges that it has a legal and moral responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of Children and Young People within the club. 

This club acknowledges that every child and Young Person has a right to enjoy membership and the sport of amateur boxing within a safe enjoyable setting. 

This club will continually review this policy in the light of identified ‘best practice’. 

This club acknowledges that every member including Committee, Coach, Official, and Volunteer have amoral & legal responsibility to safeguard and promote every child & young person’s welfare. 

This club ensures that required Coaches, Officials and Volunteers shall at all times possess a current England Boxing Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) certificate. Non-compliance with this provision will automatically exclude such persons, and possibly the club, from roles requiring DBS certificates as required in the England Boxing Safeguarding Policy. 

This club is committed to preventing the employment/deployment of unsuitable individuals. 

This club has appointed a Club Welfare Officer (‘CWO’) whose name appears below, who is responsible for: 

administering this Child Safeguarding Policy;  

ensuring that confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are maintained and securely stored; 

your induction, which includes the provision of the England Boxing Child Safeguarding Policy, the Children and Young People’s Charter, and instruction on Child Protection within the Club and within England Boxing; and ensuring your appreciation of its requirement of strict compliance. 

This club will treat seriously and deal rigorously with any incidence of abuse and will at all times follow. 

the principles and procedures laid down in the England Boxing Child Safeguarding Policy and the Safeguarding Procedure. 

Any abuse or inappropriate behaviour regarding Children & Young People will be challenged and dealt with appropriately. 

This club clearly understands that abuse comes in many forms which include 

emotional, physical and sexual; 

neglect; 

foul language, bullying and requiring an athlete to train at an inappropriate level is also recognised as a form of abuse; and 

abuse of a position of trust, such as exist between a coach and a child or young person. 

This club acknowledges that it is the responsibility of experts to determine whether or not abuse is /has taken place, it is however everyone’s responsibility to report concerns and / or abuse. 

 

WE ALWAYS REMEMBER, IN CASES OF CONCERN OR ABUSE – DOING NOTHING IS NOT AN OPTION!!! 

 

 

Monitoring 

The policy will be reviewed a year after development and then every three years, or in the following circumstances: 

 

changes in legislation and/or government guidance. 

as required by the Local Safeguarding Children Board, UK Sport and/or Home Country Sports Councils and/or England Boxing’s National Compliance Manager. 

as a result of any other significant change or event, including changes to England Boxing’s Child Safeguarding Policy.

If you feel you cannot speak to anyone within this club regarding this matter, you should contact any of the Safeguarding Officers at Divisional, Regional or National level their contact details are shown above and you will not be criticised for doing so.
